I'm always a little confused about how to go about these conversations. There is only one set of facts, but there are many ways of interpreting this information:
First, I agree the Capital Protest had violence, which would be unacceptable in a regular interaction with an officer. If I were to just shove a cop, I'd expect to go to jail for the night at least.
On the flip side, I feel like many people are ignoring or minimizing what's happening with our media and the government actors.
So let's start with a simple question: Do you think the media is doing honest journalism?
Were you aware that BLM/Antifa rioted for 3-months straight this summer? The media covered the first few weeks and then mostly stopped reporting on it.
My belief is that both BLM and MAGA are peaceful movements. However, it seems that they have been infiltrated and co-opted by professional instigators. Once they become violent, the media crafts an inaccurate narrative, which they then blast across the airwaves non-stop.
This creates the perception of instability and violence when both movements are attempting to peacefully protest government overreach. The result is a confused and divided populace.
Let's look at the messaging around these two events. Notice the difference in the way the media treats Trump and Black Lives Matter.

Most of the violent conflicts involved shoving. Ashli Babbit was the only person to be killed by violent means.
